Awards Ceremony – Update

BMJ Awards 2020: Important update, 23 July 2020

In support of global efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 and recognising the increased pressure that many of our shortlisted teams have been facing during recent months, we made the decision to change the format of the awards this year, postponing the awards ceremony and delaying the judging of finalists.

We are keen to recognise the incredible work of all our shortlisted teams and the judging of shortlisted candidates and the selection of winners in each category will now take place in a virtual format in early Autumn.

Judging for shortlisted teams

All shortlisted teams are invited to submit a video presentation of their project, a maximum of 10 minutes. A panel consisting of a BMJ champion and three expert judges will review presentations for each category.

All shortlisted teams will be invited to join a virtual 15 minute live Q&A session with our judges in the week commencing Monday 5 October.

We will continue to monitor the situation over the coming months and should we reach a decision that the live Q&A sessions are no longer feasible, we will remove this element of the judging process and the judges would base their decisions on the entry forms and video presentations. We will update all our teams should the situation change.

Announcing the winners

All winners will be announced in a broadcast on Wednesday 7 October.  In the interest of transparency and to share learning between the teams, we will create a portal for teams to view all the video presentations.

BMJ Awards showcase

We are committed to ensuring that the work of our teams is shared and promoted as widely as possible, especially during this challenging time for all healthcare professionals.

Following the results announcement, we will be launching our BMJ Awards Showcase, celebrating the 2020 BMJ Awards winners and providing greater insight into the projects that we have seen this year. This will be an exciting opportunity to hear more from our teams, judges and previous winners about their projects as well as providing insight into the upcoming plans for The BMJ Awards 2021.

Winners and finalists will see extensive coverage in The BMJ with further, more intensive social media coverage and digital presence on The BMJ Awards website.

This is a unique website which will require a more modern browser to work!
